The Patient Care Executive is responsible for ensuring that patients receive compassionate, efficient, and quality care during their hospital stay. The role focuses on assisting patients with their needs, coordinating with clinical and administrative teams, and maintaining a high standard of service and satisfaction in accordance with GEM Hospital’s care philosophy.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Patient Assistance and Comfort Care

  • Assist patients in meeting their basic needs such as mobility, hygiene, feeding, and comfort.
  • Support nursing staff in turning, positioning, and transferring patients safely.
  • Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their attendants.
  • Ensure that patient call bells are attended to promptly and efficiently.
  • Maintain patient privacy and dignity at all times.

2. Admission and Discharge Coordination

  • Assist patients and attendants during the admission process by guiding them to the assigned wards or rooms.
  • Coordinate with the admission desk, nursing station, and billing department for smooth transitions.
  • Help patients understand discharge formalities and ensure all belongings are returned before discharge.
  • Support in arranging transport for patients at the time of discharge if required.

3. Communication and Coordination

  • Act as a liaison between patients, nurses, doctors, and administrative departments.
  • Communicate patient requests or complaints to the concerned department promptly.
  • Coordinate with dietary, housekeeping, and maintenance teams to ensure timely services.
  • Keep the nursing team informed of any changes in patient condition or requests.

4. Clinical Support (Non-Clinical Assistance)

  • Assist nurses by fetching medications, equipment, or reports when needed.
  • Carry laboratory samples, reports, or documents between departments.
  • Support in maintaining cleanliness and order in patient areas.
  • Ensure biomedical waste is disposed of correctly as per hospital policy.
  • Help in transferring patients between wards, diagnostic units, or operation theatres as instructed.

5. Documentation and Record Maintenance

  • Maintain patient care records as directed by the nursing staff.
  • Update patient status logs, shift handover notes, and movement registers.
  • Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and on time.
  • Support in collecting patient feedback and forwarding it to the quality team.

6. Infection Control and Safety

  • Follow hospital infection control protocols, including hand hygiene and PPE use.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or incidents to the supervisor immediately.
  • Maintain cleanliness in patient rooms and ensure proper handling of linens and waste.
  • Participate in regular infection control and patient safety training programs.

7. Patient Experience and Satisfaction

  • Greet patients and attendants courteously and ensure they feel cared for.
  • Provide information about hospital facilities and processes politely.
  • Respond promptly to patient requests and ensure timely service delivery.
  • Assist in resolving patient grievances through appropriate channels.
  • Contribute to enhancing overall patient satisfaction scores.

8. Teamwork and Professional Conduct

  • Work collaboratively with nursing, housekeeping, and support teams.
  • Attend daily briefings and follow instructions from supervisors.
  • Maintain punctuality, discipline, and professional appearance.
  • Adhere to hospital policies, confidentiality norms, and ethical standards.
