Position Overview

The School Social Worker supports the social, emotional, and psychological well-being of high school students to ensure they can fully engage in their academic experience. This role provides counseling, intervention, and family support services while collaborating with educators and administrators to address barriers to student success.

The Social Worker develops individualized support plans, delivers counseling services, monitors student progress, and ensures compliance with services mandated by Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). This role also partners with families and community organizations to connect students with the resources needed to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
 

Key Responsibilities

Student Support & Counseling

  • Provide individual and small-group counseling to support students’ social and emotional development
  • Develop individualized support plans and social-emotional goals for students
  • Monitor student progress and adjust intervention strategies as needed
  • Conduct crisis intervention and provide support for students at risk of harm to themselves or others

Evaluation & Intervention

  • Conduct student needs assessments and evaluations
  • Use formal and informal assessment tools, observations, and interviews to evaluate student progress
  • Collaborate with educators and administrators to determine appropriate services for students
  • Provide intervention strategies addressing behavioral, emotional, and academic barriers

IEP & Special Services Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with social-emotional services required in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Partner with Special Education staff to support implementation of IEPs, 504 plans, behavior intervention plans, and safety plans
  • Maintain accurate documentation and service records

Family & Community Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with students’ families through communication, meetings, and home visits
  • Provide families with resources and referrals to community-based support services
  • Promote family engagement and support student success through collaborative partnerships

Collaboration & Consultation

  • Partner with teachers, administrators, and school leadership to support student well-being
  • Participate in multidisciplinary teams such as RTI or student intervention teams
  • Provide guidance on issues such as mental health, behavior management, attendance, and crisis response

Attendance & Student Success Initiatives

  • Track student attendance and identify trends impacting engagement and academic progress
  • Lead collaboration with school leadership to develop strategies that support attendance goals
  • Implement proactive interventions for students experiencing attendance challenges

 

Program Development

  • Develop and implement school programs that support students’ social-emotional development
  • Evaluate effectiveness of student support programs and recommend improvements
  • Facilitate training for staff and families on topics related to student well-being and mental health


Professional Responsibilities

  • Maintain compliance with professional standards, policies, and ethical guidelines for school social work
  • Participate in professional development and ongoing training opportunities
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve student support services and school culture
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting systems

 

Qualifications

Required

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW)
  • Colorado Department of Education Special Service Provider License with Social Worker endorsement
  • Strong counseling, crisis intervention, and case management skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced school environment

 

Preferred

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Previous school social work experience
  • Spanish bilingual proficiency
  • Experience working with diverse student populations

 

Contract

Mid-Senior Level

Denver
